Why we started

Built on a tight monthly budget

Prepping With Pennies started at a kitchen table, with a family balancing bills and a growing sense that a power outage could turn a rough week into a crisis. We didn't have a large savings cushion, so we began with what was already in our cupboards and added one small item at a time.

What grew from that is simple: realistic household emergency supplies, chosen for how often they get used, not for how dramatic they look.

Our budget method

Four steps, no panic required

01

Audit first

List what your household already owns: water, food, light, heat, and medicine. Knowing what you have keeps you from buying duplicates.

02

Spend ten dollars a week

A small, steady amount adds up. Pick one missing item each week and let the list guide the order instead of impulse.

03

Seal your storage

Keep supplies dry, labeled, and rotated. Simple containers and a clear date system do more than expensive gear.

04

Run practical home drills

Walk through a power-out evening once a season. Find the flashlight, check the water, and note what felt confusing.

Start with what you already have

Our foundational checklist on the blog helps you take a clear first step.
